Plot Summary:An octopus slithers over objects on land - a doll, a skull - then oozes along the shore into the sea. It secretes its ink. The camera follows it along rocks into deeper water, watching closely as it breathes. Its eye is closed then open. Simple titles, in French and German, suggest what to watch. The octopus alternates the use of breathing tubes on either side. It changes color as cells on its skin contract or dilate. Extreme magnification helps us see these changes. Two struggle, one dies. On shore, fishermen catch them and put them in pails. A single tentacle still has life. Back in the sea, two octopi attack a crab. Soon only a couple of crab legs are visible in the mouth of the victor.

相比之下还是Comandon博士的作品更震撼，但不得不说Jean Painlevé也是科学电影的另一个巅峰，完全是一个水与梦的极好文本。科学电影真是太震撼了，怪不得分析全是美学一边倒。 Painlevé主要是更深地参与先锋派，并且有很强的超现实主义作者主张，Comandon博士比较朴素。这就是前者后来的影像产生变质的原因。

【让·潘勒维】关于章鱼的记录短片（某处潜藏恶趣）。瞧着短片中的章鱼呼吸，竟看得非常入戏，顿觉可爱！又回头一想，如今章鱼在电影中常代表邪恶：《蜘蛛侠》中的章鱼博士（虽最终放下屠刀）、《加勒比海盗》系列中的大卫·琼斯以及海怪克拉肯、《金刚：骷髅岛》中的巨章等。 顺带百度简单科普一波“章鱼”（虽然大多数人也都知道）：3个心脏；2个记忆系统；比人类多一万组基因（最接近外星生物的地球生物）；可独立思考、自主学习、强好奇心等。

章鱼哥您太恶心了。章鱼哥表示很无奈：我生来就这样我TM又没办法不让你们愚蠢的人类觉得恶心。不过您游动起来还是很优雅的很美的。章鱼哥：可tm烦游动了，我就喜欢用爪子爬。强大的扭力经可以掰碎螃蟹。在水底做个爱也不容易啊。小章鱼太科幻了...简直像异形。不少动物们从出生那一刻起就要拼命啊
开头一些太恶趣味了
科教片，默片，好牛的摄影技术，小恶趣味（比如让章鱼爬过女人脖子，还有那个骷髅……）。海滩上捕章鱼的人那个段落让人印象深刻。赞此片的文本组织和拍摄构思（尤其是场景选择，比如那一段章鱼在各种地方爬和游动……）。保罗大帝逝世之后再看此片真是情何以堪啊。

很好的故事...但与吸血蝠的压迫力相比，尚存差距..树章鱼应该并不存在，其实有骷髅的海底才是它的归宿，只是潘勒维营造出的悲伤调调，短短数行的文字，就让人觉察己物种的极限以及死亡的终极。愿观者能从沙中见到宇宙，不思考者直面宇宙也如沙粒：这之间没有好坏，只有选择。
说实在的一开始在浅谈上拍摄章鱼就觉得章鱼非常恶心~这部是偏彩色的短片~也是让·潘勒维在1928年完成的处女作~不过章鱼的宝宝还是挺可爱的~
